Gujarat Elections 2017 | Rajkot brings out the vote, Vijay Rupani confident
As the first phase of the state Assembly elections ended at 5 pm Saturday, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s fate was sealed. Contesting from the Rajkot west constituency, the CM exuded confidence that he would be re-elected and that the Bharatiya Janata Party would retain power for the fifth consecutive time. However, even as voters, especially senior citizens, were exercising their franchise, candidates from both major political parties were facing
pressure.
Before casting his vote, Rupani, along with wife Anjali, first went to a temple. “There is no challenge. There will be clear victory for BJP,” Rupani said.
Most polling booths in Rajkot witnessed long queues as enthusiastic voters, notably outside the Kendriya Vidyalayas waited for hours to cast their vote.
“I am a committed voter. People in party changes often, but don’t change party. I vote for one party, irrespective of who the candidate is. We women group have come here to early to cast our vote. I don’t want any delays in this,” said Bharti Thaker, a resident of Rajkot.
