Criminal wanted for city bizman’s murder arrested
The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a criminal wanted for the gruesome murder of a businessman in Ashok Vihar in August this year. A reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on his arrest. The victim, Sanjiv Gajwani, 42, was shot thrice at point-blank range right outside his house.
The accused was identified as Rajesh Kumar alias Raj, 27. He was identified with the help of a tattoo on his chest, which mentioned the name of one his girlfriends.
According to senior officers, acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team nabbed Rajesh from near the Kali Mata Mandir on Ring Road in Rohini, around 4 pm on Tuesday. When the accused saw the police team, he pulled out a loaded country-made pistol but was overpowered by the cops before he could act.
“During interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in 10 criminal cases, including two cases registered under the NDPS Act in Punjab, a case of attempt to murder, a case of assault in Panchkula, two cases lodged under the Arms Act in Haryana, a kidnapping for extortion case, two cases of escaping from police custody in Patiala and Kurukshetra, and the Ashok Vihar robbery-cum-murder case,” DCP (crime) Joy Tirkey said.
