Train services on Harbour line affected in morning after Railway goof-up
Train services on the Harbour line went for a toss in the morning hours after the engineering team of Central Railway goofed up while carrying out a late night block. The CR authorities have begun pumping mud and muck along the tracks that have slums and gutters next to it, starting on the stretch between Govandi and Mankhurd.
Sources said that it was the first time that they were using a machine to remove and clean mud under the tracks. The muck and mud normally mixes with the ballast and creates a slush which makes the track weak.
On the night of Tuesday-Wednesday the CR began carrying out work on this stretch for which block was supposed to be taken till 4am. “The block got busted as their was technical issues with the machine. We managed to rectify it by 4.30-4.45am or so,” said a CR official.
The track alignment too shifted a bit and it forced the CR authorities to invoke a speed restriction on that stretch. The officials said that they had to impose speed restrictions of 10kmph between Mankhurd and Govandi.
