Images of political figures soar in the sky with kites
Fighter kites describe the mood of the Pink City on day of Makar Sankrant. The kites, that come in diverse shapes, patterns and colours, also get photos of influential individuals of contemporary times. This year, the kites have taken a political colour with most kites carrying faces of the popular political leaders, some even reflect the divide between leaders and their parties. The Modi kite, however, remains the most popular one.
A kite wholesale shop at the traditional market in the walled city area went out of stock of Modi kites on Friday afternoon owing to the huge demand. The shopkeeper had ordered thousands of those just days ago. A full size cut-out kite of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also seen at the other end of the shop. The UP CM is also among other popular leaders to appear on kites this year.
The Opposition too has its fare share of representation with kites bearing image of the new national president of the Congress Rahul Gandhi being in demand. While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had been in demand last year, he seemed to have lost a little charm now.
