Let commanders take call: VK Chaturvedi
Given the recent incursions, cease fire violations, and cross-border infiltration by Pakistan troops, a retired general of the Indian army is of the view that local commanders on the borders should be given more freedom to deal with this problem.
Speaking at a valedictory session at South Asia Studies Centre, the University of Rajasthan, Lt general VK Chaturvedi said India needs to focus on delegation of power on borders.
“Give the powers to the local commanders. We need to have confidence in them to deal with Pakistan. Even if they have to cross the border, give a lesson or send a message, let it be their prerogative.
“It should not be controlled or centralised with the highest leadership of the country.
The army is capable of dealing with challenges with Pakistan,” Chaturvedi said.
Talking about Pakistan being a nuclear power, he said it is just a deterrent, and the space for the conventional war cannot be overlooked.
As far as India’s nuclear policy is concerned, he said, nuclear powers are of ‘no use’.
