When Amla got 60, no one talked, pitch isn’t too dangerous: Ajinkya Rahane
Indian vice captain Ajinkya Rahane today rejected assertion that Wanderers pitch is too dangerous to play. He said that it was challenging but certainly not dangerous and also called out South Africa’s hypocrisy in this regard.
In a strongly worded statement in the post match press conference, Rahane said, ” New ball is challenging but you cannot call it dangerous, When Amla got 60, no one talked about pitch. Everybody talked about how he played. I hope Elgar is fine, but I don’t think pitch is too dangerous.” About his own gritty 48, Rahane said that he knew that he could become a hero, if he can play well in this challenging pitch. Rahane said the onus is on ICC to take the final call, but Indian team is ready to play.
Indian team manager Sunil Subramaniam reiterated Rahane’s words and said that the team is ready to play. Explaining team’s rationale, he said that on Day 3 the most number of runs were scored and least number of wickets were dismissed. Hence the team is willing. Team manager also said the ball to Elgar which hit him on the helmet was a normal ball.
