NITI Aayog CEO given extension till June 30
Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant was today given an extension till June 30 next year, according to an official order.
He was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the government think tank on February 17, 2016 for a two-year term.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension of Kant’s tenure till June 30, 2019, the order issued by the personnel ministry said.
Kant is a 1980 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.
Before taking over as the CEO of National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Aayog), he was Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
Last Thursday, Kant hailed the 2018 Union Budget, saying that, “it is a forward-looking budget in totality.”
Speaking to ANI, Kant said the budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, is transformational particularly for social and agriculture sector.
“It’s very transformational budget particularly for social and agriculture sector. It’s very forward looking budget in totality. Finance Minister put resources into hands of agriculture sector & MSMEs,” he added.
He further said that Finance Minister has focused very strongly on education and health sectors as well.
