Live Updates: Parliament gears up for Day 5; will Opposition let Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha function normally?
On the fifth day since resuming, both houses of Parliament have been disrupted by the Opposition over a number of issues ranging from special status in Andhra Pradesh to the PNB Fraud that has plagued the nation.
On Thursday, on occasion of International Women’s Day, Parliament functioned in the upper house when women Rajya Sabha MPs, along with their male counterparts stressed to M Venkaiah Naidu, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, on the importance to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill.
On March 8, the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha began with Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu made a reference to the International Women Day and wished Rajya Sabha members, especially the women MPs, and through them all citizens of the country.
Several women members as well their male counterparts stressed on the importance of women empowerment and suggested steps in this direction.
However, the amiable environment in the House was short- lived as slogan shouting members from the opposition Congress as well some from the AIADMK trooped into the Well.
Amid disruptions, the House could not take up the scheduled Question Hour and it was adjourned till 2 pm. The Lok Sabha was adjourned even before the session began
