Indie music awards are a tricky business. The events are held for free, and no one, not even the music fraternity, takes the awards nights seriously enough. MTV Indies plans to appeal to the funny side of the community, with their first award show titled “MTV Indie Awkwards”.
The night will be hosted by stand-up comedians Hoezaay and Varun Thakur. A host of musicians have been nominated. Their names and the categories have been kept a secret. A spokesperson from the channel says, “These awards are a funny take on the indie scene, to celebrate the community. They are being held as part of Spiro, the festival that marks the first anniversary of the channel.”
Three bands that have not been around for a while are coming together for this gig. Split, the iconic punk band from Mumbai, will regroup; so will Bombay Black, another motley bunch of veteran musicians . Blek, a punk act, who have been on hiatus for over a year, will come together for the night. The evening will end with music by 2Sensitive, the duo that is part of the Bhavishyavani Future Soundz crew.
