Dominic Cooper lands lead role in ‘Preacher’
Dominic Cooper will play the titular role of Reverend Jesse Custer in the TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic book series.
“The Devil’s Double” star Dominic Cooper will star in AMC’s “Preacher”.
The 36-year-old actor will play the titular role of Reverend Jesse Custer in the TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic book series, reported Ace Showbiz.
Executive producer Seth Rogen announced the news on Twitter, writing, “We have Jesse Custer! @dominiccoop is gonna save our souls.”
Cooper will be seen in the role of “a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty.”
Ruth Negga is cast as Tulip O’Hare, Jesse’s former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who will accompany him on his journey.
Also starring in the pilot are “True Blood” alum Lucy Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, a church organist and Jesse’s loyal right hand; Joseph Gilgun as Irish vampire Cassidy; and Ian Colletti as Eugene Root aka Arseface.
Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic book series of the same name, the TV adaptation is executive produced by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Ennis, Dillon and Sam Catlin.
