Guwahati convention appeals for expelling Bangladeshis irrespective of religion, language
Bangladeshi infiltrators should not be differentiated on the basis of religion, caste, creed or language and should be measured by the same yardstick while identifying and expelling them, a convention attended by representatives of several political parties including the Congress said on Sunday.
The convention, in a resolution, also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate steps to sign repatriation treaties with Bangladesh and Nepal so that those countries agreed to take back their citizens who had illegally entered Assam.
“All concerned should extend full cooperation in the on-going process of updating the National Register of Citizens in order to ensure that every single infiltrator from the neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal could be identified. The central government should take steps and sign repatriation treaties with Bangladesh, Nepal and other neighbouring countries in order to send back all those identified as illegal migrants,” the resolutions said.
The convention was attended by representatives of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Congress, NCP, CPI(ML), Samajwadi Party, AAP, AJYCP, Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti, and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti.
“Since the Assam Accord of 1985 clearly states that all those who entered Assam after March 24, 1971 were infiltrators, there should not be any distinction based on religion or language,” the resolution said.
