No achche din, at least bring sachche din: Congress

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, senior party leader Kapil Sibal said Modi has notched up more miles in one year than any other leader, even leaving behind US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The Congress said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was more concerned about Non-Resident Indians than resident Indians, adding that the latter are now repenting for having elected him.

The party also criticised Modi for telling NRIs in Shanghai that “earlier, you felt ashamed of being born Indian” and “now you feel proud to represent the country”.

“One should think before speaking. If you cannot bring achche din, at least bring sachche din… He talks without facts and it has become his habit… He is more concerned about NRIs than resident Indians,” said Sibal. “Suhana safar aur yeh mausam hasin… and the people are saying humein darr hai ham kho na jaye kahee. Very sad,” he added.

“We will never say we are ashamed to have such a prime minister. Whoever is our prime minister, we are proud of him. But he should be more concerned about India… He should not pat himself on the back. Let the people pat him on the back,” he said.

Reminding Modi of his party’s pre-poll promises, including bringing back black money in 100 days, Sibal said, “Now he says it was an election jumla. We want to ask how many elections jumlas were there… You made the wrong person the prime minister”.

Criticising the NDA government’s foreign policy, Sibal said: “Look what he did in China. He made a unilateral announcement on e-visas. This was a leverage point for us, through which we could have negotiated with the Chinese on the stapled visa issue for Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. He lost that opportunity.”

Reeling out figures, Sibal said 52 per cent of the agricultural households in India have an average debt of Rs 47,000, out of which 24,000 have taken loan from private money leaders. “Has the Prime Minister paid any attention to this… Where is the face of the common man in his speeches abroad,” he said.

“The corporate sector is in decline. Banks are in distress. The real estate sector is in the dumps,” said Sibal. Non-performing assets (NPAs) have mounted to 4.68 lakh crore and a survey of 2941 companies since last year showed that their profits have decreased by 14 to 16 per cent, he added.

Modi govt’s first year was a disaster: CPM

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday described Modi government’s one year in office as a “disaster”. “ The only record this government made was PM’s trip to 18 countries in one year,” he said in Mumbai. The government has failed to keep its promises whether on inflation or farmers’ issues, he said, expressing concern over “bypassing of parliamentary procedure”. ENS
