Chairs broken? Check. Mics flung? Check. Slogans raised? Check. Bite person? Whaaa?
Yes, while the first three actions are often witnessed in our raucous state Assembly sessions, Kerala on Friday infamously added ‘biting’ to that list.
Amidst unprecedented and stormy scenes inside the state assembly in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, a Congress MLA K Sivadasan Nair alleged that he was ‘bitten’ by Jameela Prakasam, an opposition woman MLA during the scuffle. Television visuals showed Jameela hurtling towards Congress leader and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who was surrounded by a battery of party leaders. In an attempt to stop her from proceeding any further, Nair is seen blocking her and it was in those few seconds that the biting is said to have occurred.

After the protest, Nair even addressed the media and displayed the bite mark on his shoulder.
However, the opposition has counter-alleged that Nair had assaulted Jameela during the scuffle. Stones were thrown at both his MLA office in Pathanamthitta as well as Nair’s house after the incident. A harthal (strike) has also been organized by the opposition in the state today.
