Multiple festivals: Celebratory spirit engulfs B-Town

The day marked the beginning of the nine-day “Navratri” festival. “Gudi Padwa” and “Ugadi” – New Year’s Day – for the people of the Deccan region of India were also celebrated.
It was the auspicious occasion of “Cheti Chand” for the Sindhi community and “Navreh” — the lunar new year which is celebrated in Kashmir and many other parts of the country. It coincides with the first day of “Chaitra” (spring).
