Snoop Dogg is developing a family drama for HBO
Snoop Dogg is developing a new drama series for HBO about a Los Angeles family in the early 1980s. Details are limited right now, but Deadline reports that Snoop will serve as an executive producer and that Rodney Barnes, an executive producer and writer for The Boondocks, will be writing the series. It’s described, vaguely, as being about the collision of “community and American politics.” Snoop reportedly grew up outside of LA in the ’70s and ’80s, so his childhood may well inform the tone and events of the series. There’s no name for the show just yet, and it sounds like HBO hasn’t given it a final sign off either. Still, it’s a pretty great creative team — and with HBO already talking, it clearly sees the appeal.
