If you have a story to tell that will enchant and educate children, you could be in Goa this November, exchanging notes on your script with an established writer-director from Iran and The Netherlands. Known for their flourishing children’s movie culture, mentors from these countries are being considered for the Children’s Screenwriters’ Lab, a newly-introduced category at the NFDC Film Bazaar.
“As a country, the demographic trend in Indian cinema is towards the youth. There is a dearth of value-based, motivational cinema for children. We feel the importance of such films and we’ve been wanting to introduce this for a while,” says Nina Lath Gupta, managing director, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). Besides the new category, Film Bazaar has opened its invitation for scripts in two other labs: The Screenwriters’ Lab and Romance Screenwriter’s Lab. Six independent screenwriters, in each category, will be selected and then mentored in two phases. The mentoring will be by some of the best writer-directors from India and across the globe. The deadline for submitting the application is April 15. In the past few years, the NFDC Film Bazaar has been behind some of the most widely-recognised Indian films such as The Lunchbox, Titli and Dum Laga Ke Haisha.
