Former Bengal under-19 cricket captain dies as result of on-field collision
A club cricketer in Kolkata passed away on Monday, days after an on-field collision with a teammate.
Ankit Keshri, 20, came in as a substitute and was positioned at deep cover during a match between local clubs East Bengal and Bhawanipore at Jadavpur University ground on Friday.
As the batsman hit the ball in the air, he ran to take a catch. The bowler, Sourabh Mondal, too tried to pouch the ball and didn’t see Ankit running in. As a result both collided.
A witness on the field said Mondal’s knee rammed into Ankit’s head. Which hurt him severely.
Ankit was taken to the hospital straightaway and was said to be stable.
But in a tragic turn of events, he suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday midnight and expired early morning.
Ankit Keshri was the captain of Bengal under-19 team till a couple of years back.
