GST: Foodgrains to be cheaper, but FMCG goods may attract 18% tax
The Centre on Thursday announced that after the rollout of the Goods and Service Tax (GST), the price of daily consumer goods such as dal and foodgrains will be cheaper.
Out of 1,211 items, The government has decided GST rates on on all but six, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said today.
Milk will be exempted from GST; foodgrains will be cheaper, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said. However, FMCG goods such as hair oil, soap and toothpaste will attract 18% GST, the revenue secretary added.
