Dirty picture: Metro stations derails from Swacchata Mission
If on one hand the entire Pink City is embarking on Swacch Bharat Mission with an aim to beautify and to inspire the concept of cleanliness among masses, on the other the Jaipur Metro stations and the Metro corridor are lying neglected. The metro station and the corridor was launched with great fanfare, but its image is losing sheen with several of its areas being used to dump garbage and staining walls and floor with gutkha spit. Not just the maintenance staff, but also the passengers are a part of the problem.
Startlingly, Jaipur Metro has recovered 4.40 lakh rupees by invoicing 2,200 passengers for spreading dirt within three years (Rs200 was fined per person). Despite fine, the passengers are not holding back from putting brakes on their condemnable habits.
Moreover, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is ensuring cleanliness of the platforms, metro trains and concourse area of the metro station premises, but the cleaning of the metro station’s non-passenger area and ATM cabin is not being paid attention to.
