SC to examine if Akhilesh govt withdrawing cases against ‘Yadav’ community
The court said it would examine the matter and stayed the operation of the High Court order in the meantime.
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to examine whether Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government is allegedly withdrawing criminal cases filed against ‘Yadav’ community.
A bench led by Justice A K Sikri issued notices on an appeal by the state government, which had challenged an order by the Allahabad High Court.
The High Court had directed the state government to adduce details of all cases in the last three years- after the Samajwadi the Party government came to power in the state- where prosecutions were withdrawn from courts, involving Yadavs as accused.

The state challenged this in the top court complaining the High Court had erroneously indicted them of favouring a particular class. Moreover, it said the decision to withdraw cases was within the executive powers of the state.
The bench said that the issue as to whether the state government was invariably withdrawing cases in favour of one particular community could be gone into although it would be a mammoth exercise to dig out all such cases in the last three years.
The court said it would examine the matter and stayed the operation of the High Court order in the meantime.
